EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - In just a few days, millions of people across the country are at risk of losing their SNAP benefits, also known as food stamps, because of the ongoing government shutdown.
That includes thousands here in the Tri-State.
The Executive Director of Feed Evansville says there are over 9,000 households in Vanderburgh County that rely on SNAP.
Those benefits typically support families with kids, people with disabilities, and seniors.
“SNAP is a, just holistically, a great program for families and individuals that can just barely make ends meet,” Zac Heronemus, Executive Director of the Tri-State Food Bank, said. “We’ve got a lot of folks, not just here in our community but throughout the Tri-State, throughout the nation, that rely on this.”
