The team at Oklahoma Heart Hospital is taking part in a research trial, and News9 got an exclusive chance to be at the hospital during the surgical phase. The surgery was a minimally invasive valve procedure that allowed the patient to be back home within two days.

The AltaValve is a transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR) device designed to treat severe mitral regurgitation without removing the native valve. It is a self-expanding device with an atrial fixation mechanism that secures the valve in the left atrium, and it uses a bovine pericardial tissue valve housed in a nitinol frame.

The procedure is minimally invasive, typically delivered via catheter, and aims to provide a new treatment option for patients unsuitable for traditional surgery or other valve replacements
