LOG CABIN, Texas (KLTV) - A former Henderson County fire official says fire departments are struggling to staff volunteers nationwide.
Earlier this week, the Log Cabin Fire Department announced that it will be closing its doors on Friday , citing a lack of funding and volunteers.
“The urge to volunteer for many people have just gone down the drain,” said Chuck Harley, former president of the Henderson County Fire Chiefs Association and former Gun Barrel City fire chief. “It’s not only the hard work and the long hours they put in, it’s just the fact that they don’t have the time and most of them are, I guess, economically bound and tied and can’t afford to give up their time.”
