The Palm Desert girls' flag football team made history on Saturday, becoming the first desert team to advance to the third round of the CIF-SS playoffs, and they did it in dramatic fashion.

Receiver Nellie Poland caught a pass in front of visiting Gabrielino's bench and scooted 30 yards down the sideline for the winning score less than a minute before time ran out, and the Aztecs emerged with a dramatic 13-7 win in the CIF-SS Division 6 playoffs.
