BRAWLEY — Environmental group Earthworks and community organization Comité Cívico del Valle said they remain confident in their legal challenge to Imperial County’s approval of the Hell’s Kitchen lithium project, following the county and developer Controlled Thermal Resources’ recent filing of an opposition brief.
The two groups first challenged the county’s approval of the project in 2024, arguing that it failed to meet California’s environmental standards. A trial court denied the challenge earlier this year, and the organizations have since appealed the decision to the state Court of Appeal. Their opening brief was filed last month, with a ruling expected sometime in 2026.
