The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation ( BMC ) is studying four possible locations for pigeon feeding after it was banned in Mumbai. The proposed sites are near Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP), Aarey Milk Colony, a mangrove patch in Wadala, and Gorai.
All these places are away from crowded neighbourhoods. The decision was announced after a meeting between administrator and municipal commissioner Bhushan Gagrani and a group of Jain community members on Tuesday, October 28.
The Jain delegation asked the administration to provide designated areas for feeding pigeons. Gagrani said these sites are far from residential buildings and would reduce health risks. He also said that all public feeding locations will stay closed for now, as directed by the Bombay High Court.
