Justin Paul Campbell, 35, sat in Supreme Court in Corner Brook alert, looking around and writing in his notebook.

His murder trial started Tuesday with 14 jurors — eight men and six women — listening attentively while Crown attorney Kate Ashton delivered a short but alarming opening statement, detailing the gruesome way in which she says Campbell planned and killed his grandmother, Eva Banfield.

"It's the Crown's position that the evidence will show that in the days leading up to Banfield's death Justin Campbell was planning on how to get money from his grandmother to buy drugs."

Campbell has pleaded not guilty to murder and theft charges, and is facing a four-week trial.
