Though we're separated by around 110 years, I'm pretty sure Adelaide Kennerly and I are kindred spirits. Beyond being a pair of Montgomery Advertiser journalists, we share a love of Halloween.

For Kennerly, the spooky holiday had such an impact that she was possessed by the inspiration to write a poem — "Halloween is Coming." It appeared in the Advertiser on Oct. 30, 1915.

Oh! thread your apples on a string.

And buy a thimble and a ring,

And all the corn that you can bring,

For Halloween Is coming!

Go pick your pumpkins big and stout,

And cut old Jack-o's features out,

And place your candles all about,

For Halloween Is coming!

Some tick-tack twine, a bunch of кеуs,

Some lanterns for the garden trees,

And tasty candy recipes.
