Staff from the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre have been recognised with bravery awards for trying to save the life of a woman at the centre earlier this year.

In January, the four staff members responded to a critical medical emergency involving a regular centre patron who was found unresponsive in her vehicle after her evening swim.

After being alerted by the patron’s daughter, dry operations officer Lauren Yardley called for help from aquatic operations officer Nick Fuller and lifeguard Ryan Pennachio.

They removed the woman from the vehicle, conducted vital checks and commenced CPR with defibrillation while another employee Luke Waldron managed crowd control, gathered equipment and provided support to the woman’s daughter.
