A small Indiana school district cancelled an upcoming play adaptation of author Jodi Picoult's "Between the Lines" after the administration and school board decided the script contained inappropriate language and content.
The cancellation comes as social conservatives continue to shine a public light on what children can read and be taught. Supporters say this movement is about protecting children, while critics say it amounts to censorship.
After hundreds of hours of rehearsals, Gas City's Mississinewa High School students expected to perform the production this weekend at a local performing arts center. However, in an Oct. 16 letter to students and parents obtained by IndyStar, Superintendent Jeremy Fewell said he was cancelling the show.
