MESA, Ariz. — A person is dead and an officer was injured during a shooting in Mesa, the city's police department said.
According to Mesa PD, a shooting occurred Wednesday morning near Sossaman and Ray roads. Officials said an officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the incident.
Police said there are no outstanding suspects. The identity of the officer or suspect has not been released.
At about 2 a.m., officers responded to a trespassing call and located a man inside a vehicle. Police said the 34-year-old man became confrontational and fled.
Police deployed a grappler device in an attempt to detain the suspect. The man allegedly fired rounds from his vehicle, resulting in a standoff with officers. One officer was struck by the man's gunfire, police said.
