PEORIA, Ill. – Arson appears to be the cause of a fire Wednesday morning at the corner of Frye and Atlantic in Peoria.
Fire Battalion Chief Rick Waldron says crews arrived just after 4:15 a.m., finding heavy fire showing from the front of a one-story home that was boarded up.
Once inside, firefighters encountered heavy fire on the main floor at the front of the house. The bulk of the fire was out in about 10 minutes, Waldron said. A search confirmed the house was vacant.
Crews remained on the scene for an hour extinguishing hot spots. No injuries were reported.
The house was a total loss with damage estimated at $50,000.
