TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) - Two Toledo sisters celebrating a birthday trip are stranded in Jamaica as Hurricane Melissa made landfall as a catastrophic Category 5 hurricane.
Tonae Crayton and her sister booked their trip last month and were scheduled to return to the United States on Tuesday, but the historic storm changed their plans.
“They said this is one of the largest hurricanes ever, ever seen,” Crayton said.
The hurricane brought catastrophic winds, rain and storm surge to the Caribbean island. Crayton described the conditions at Riu Montego Bay.
“All the palm trees are down, it’s looking pretty windy out here, it’s not looking too good,” she said. “It’s going to get pretty bad here throughout later on through the night.”
