A 19-year-old woman died after her vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer on Interstate 35 on Oct. 28.

Emilie Vanwinkle was driving northbound on I-35 between Ankeny and Huxley around 3:30 p.m. when she lost control of her vehicle and fatally crashed into the rear of a tractor-trailer. The semi was sitting on the northbound outside shoulder because of mechanical issues, according to an Iowa State Patrol crash report.

About 0.06 inches of rain fell in Ankeny between 3 and 4 p.m. on Oct. 28, according to the Iowa Environmental Mesonet.

Vanwinkle was transported to the state medical examiner's office. She was wearing a seatbelt during the collision. The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by multiple agencies when responding to the fatal crash, according to the report.
