LANSING, Mich. (WLNS)-- Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel filed a lawsuit against the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Secretary Brooke Rollins for halting the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits during the ongoing government shutdown.
Lansing Mayor Andy Schor joined Nessel in addressing the impact of the suspension on Michigan families.
The lawsuit challenges the suspension of SNAP benefits, which affects 1.4 million Michiganders who depend on the program to meet their food needs, according to Nessel.
The lawsuit was filed in response to the USDA's decision to suspend SNAP benefits, which Nessel argues is illegal during the federal government shutdown.
