Jury resumes deliberations in the trial of an Illinois deputy who killed Sonya Massey Updated 2 mins ago An Illinois jury has resumed deliberations in the trial of a sheriff’s deputy accused of first-degree murder in the shooting death of Sonya Massey, a Black woman who called 911 asking for help. The jury received the case against 31-year-old Sean Grayson on Tuesday and deliberated for more than six hours. Grayson and another deputy went to Massey’s home in Springfield in July 2024 after she reported a prowler. Body camera video of the shooting has been key evidence. Grayson argues that he feared for his safety when Massey picked up a hot pan from her stove.
