A retired federal judge is warning that President Donald Trump has “actually seized near-absolute unchecked power” in the United States as questions swirl about the possibility of him seeking a third term in 2028.

During an appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Tuesday, J. Michael Luttig, a former judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, was asked whether Trump will attempt to seek a third term. Trump did not rule out his political future in the 2028 election on Monday, telling reporters that “I haven’t really thought about it,” while touting the “best poll numbers I’ve ever had.”

“I would love to do it,” Trump said. “And I have my best poll numbers ever. It’s very terrible.”
