Upwards of 300,000 drivers could be affected by a new interchange between Loop 101 and Interstate 10 near Phoenix.
That number is expected to increase by about 30% by 2040 — bringing the total number of average daily drivers to nearly 400,000 in the next two decades.
Part of the catalyst for the interchange project was the exponential growth of the West Valley . The other, though, pertained to safety of the HOV lanes.
The $316 million project isn't expected to break ground until next spring, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
