A man in the Russian resort city of Sochi has been dubbed the “world’s unluckiest robber” after a series of blunders during a failed theft made it effortless for police to catch him.

According to a viral video, the man was seen stealing a laptop from a shop, but accidentally dropped his own phone while fleeing the scene. In a desperate attempt to cover his tracks, he then snatched another phone, only to lose his jacket during the chase, with his ID card still inside.

Police later recovered both the phone and the jacket, quickly identifying and arresting the suspect.

Social media users mocked the thief’s misfortunes, calling it one of the easiest cases local police would ever have to solve. One user jokingly commented on the incident, “It's called strategy. Z+ security for free”
