South Australian police have launched a sweeping statewide crackdown targeting organised crime — and it’s largely linked to a secret weapon: the AN0M app.
The encrypted messaging platform was built by the Australian Federal Police and FBI and used for Operation Ironside, which began in 2021 and has made 164 arrests across SA.
The latest sting on Wednesday netted 55 alleged offenders who are facing a staggering 813 charges, including drug trafficking, manufacturing and money laundering.
Among those charged are six already behind bars.
“This is a significant blow to organised crime in South Australia,” Deputy Commissioner Linda Williams said on Wednesday.
