An Illinois woman will likely spend the rest of her life behind bars for killing a former police chief and lover in the Land of Lincoln.
In late June, Marcy L. Oglesby, 53, was convicted during a bench trial in Knox County on one count each of first-degree murder , attempted first-degree murder, and aggravated battery .
On Monday, Knox County Circuit Judge Andrew Doyle sentenced the defendant to 50 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. The court also credited Oglesby with 326 days spent in pretrial detention.
The punishment all but caps off a whirlwind criminal justice process after Oglesby killed her then-boyfriend Richard "Rick" Young, a former Maquon Police Department chief, in the fall of 2021.
