Vote: Who should be the top individual Texas high school football performer from Week 9 (Oct. 20-26)?
Odessa Permian running back Gavin Black had a big game against rival Midland Legacy in Week 9.
Mount Enterprise’s Kaegan Ash, El Paso Franklin’s Ernie Powers and Ozona’s Christian Villarreal. Those three outstanding running backs pop up in our top high school football performers nearly every week. The yardage-devouring triumvirate outdid itself this past week.
Ash, Powers and Villarreal are all in the top 10 in rushing yards for the season in the nation. Powers is second with 3,063 yards and 49 touchdowns. Villarreal is third with 2,858 yards and 43 touchdowns. Ash is ninth with 2,185 yards and 37 touchdowns.
The national leader, Myles McLaughlin of Knox (IN)
