PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- One person died after a fire in Southeast Portland early Wednesday morning, officials said.
At 3:45 a.m., Portland Fire & Rescue said they responded to a home in the Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood.
When crews arrived, they said there was heavy fire and smoke coming from the back side of the house.
Upon entering the home for search and rescue efforts, officials said there was floor-to-ceiling clutter, which made accessing parts of the house challenging.
Eventually, fire crews managed to enter the house from a window, where they reported high heat conditions in the house that slowly improved as crews worked to douse the flames.
A firefighter in the house reported finding a victim, who was then extricated using a ladder.
