STATEWIDE — GOVERNOR KATHY HOCHUL announced $30 million in emergency state funding to support over 16 million meals for New Yorkers at risk of losing food assistance due to the federal government shutdown, her office said Monday.
Nearly 3 million residents could lose their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits starting Nov. 1 after the USDA declined to release federal funds. Hochul also launched ny.gov/federalcuts , a portal where residents can share stories about the impact of federal funding cuts.
The governor also warned that 140,000 New Yorkers face a 40% rise in health insurance premiums, while more than 1.5 million could see heating aid delayed.
