Whenever Brandan Bidois goes home to Australia, he surely encounters people with less baseball knowledge than he’s accustomed to in the United States.
So the Pirates minor league reliever simplified things in 2025: Not allowing anybody to get a hit is very good.
From July 29-Sept. 9, Bidois faced 64 consecutive batters without allowing a hit, delivering 18 hitless innings across 11 appearances.
In baseball’s modern era, in the majors or minors, only Dennis Eckersley (21 in 1977) has had a longer run of hitless innings.
Which is why little surprise accompanied Bidois being named the Pirates’ Kent Tekulve Reliever of the Year, the Brisbane, Queensland, native producing a 2025 season for the ages: 8-0 with a 0.74 ERA, seven saves, 69 strikeouts, a .110 batting average against and 0.80 WHI
