Although It: Welcome to Derry is based on Stephen King's best-selling 1986 novel, the show strays from the source material, including the adaptation of one disturbing death. The HBO supernatural horror series, developed by Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs, serves as a prequel to the 2017 film It and its sequel, It Chapter Two . It's set in 1962 in Derry, Maine. It: Welcome to Derry takes place about 26 years before the events of the first movie starring Bill Skarsgård . The show kicks off with the strange disappearance of a young boy. From then on, peculiar and creepy things continue happening in the small town as the aforementioned missing boy's friends try to find him. Unfortunately, when they do, things only get worse.
