A man was rescued after his car ended up submerged in a retention pond north of Tulsa Hills near Olympia Avenue and 71st Street, police said.

Authorities said the driver was attempting a U-turn around a median when he began experiencing a medical episode. Witnesses reported he lost control of the vehicle, drove over a curb, and ended up fully submerged in the pond.

The man got out of the vehicle and stood on its roof, shouting that he could not swim, before bystanders helped him to safety. Police believe he may have been having a seizure. He was treated at the scene and transported to a hospital. Officials said he is alert and has no major injuries aside from the medical episode.

Traffic in the area was slowed while emergency crews responded.
