NEW ORLEANS — Amid the ongoing federal government shutdown, United Way of Southeast Louisiana launched a regional food drive Tuesday to support local food pantries and assist families facing lost income and suspended SNAP benefits.
Donations of non-perishable food and diapers will be accepted through Nov. 25. United Way staff and volunteers will deliver contributions to regional food banks to help meet increased demand.
“We recognize that costs are high and times are tough for the vast majority of our region,” said Michael Williamson, President and CEO of United Way of Southeast Louisiana.
