A few years before John Carpenter came along and set the standard for holiday horror slashers with Halloween, a hidden gem out of Canada took everything we love about the Christmas season and turned it on its head. While many consider Halloween to be the first "modern slasher movie," there's no denying that it took some of its cues from the film in question, including its opening POV scene and the idea of a mysterious killer stalking a group of young women. Dare we say, had it not been for the Canadian production, there's even the possibility that Carpenter's classic might not exist. Now, 51 years later, it's still the perfect way to say farewell to spooky season, and hello to everything adorned in tinsel.
