A British pro-Palestinian commentator speaking engagement in New Jersey has been canceled after he was detained by ICE, officials said.
Sami Hamdi was taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Sunday in the domestic terminal of San Francisco International Airport, according to the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
He was to be among the featured speakers at Dar-ul-Islah (the Muslim Society of Bergen County) at the mosque in Teaneck, on Wednesday night.
“In light of recent events, ‘ The Syrian Story: Past, Present & Future’ program at Dar-ul-Islah has been canceled,” the organization said Monday. “We appreciate your understanding and support.”
Hamdi had also been slated to speak at a Syria-focused panel at Al Falah Center in Bridgewater on Monday. That event
