A 36-year-old East Orange man was killed after he was shot in the chest on Tuesday, Oct. 28, authorities said.

At 12:40 p.m., East Orange police responded to 252-256 N. Clinton Street and found Hamza Abdul-Haqq with a gunshot wound to the chest/back area, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II, and East Orange Public Safety Director Maurice Boyd said.

He was transferred to University Hospital where he was soon pronounced dead, authorities said.

The investigation is ongoing, authorities said.
