EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - Deputies say a man charged with the murder of an Evansville firefighter has a new charge after he was involved in a fight with inmates in the Vanderburgh County Jail.
Officials with the Vanderburgh County Sherriff’s Office says 46-year-old Larry Richmond and two other inmates were punching the victim, who was pinned to a bunk.
The victim was sent to the hospital.
Deputies say the fight appeared to break out after the inmates exchanged words.
Richmond was awaiting his trial in December in death of firefighter Richard Doerr.
Doerr was shot to death at his home in 2019.
According to the affidavit, 32-year-old Dakota Burgess and 32-year-old Bryan Lewis were also involved in the fight, with Lewis throwing the first punch.
All three now have a Battery charge ad
