Ten years have passed since the city of Fontana implemented its Housing Rehabilitation Program (HRP). The milestone was celebrated at the city council meeting on Sept. 23, in which Housing Manager Valerie Gonzales accepted the honor from the council.

“When I started this program 10 years ago, it was under the goal of spending down (Community Development Block Grant) funds and offering a resource to our low-income residents who needed assistance in keeping up with those on- going costs associated with home ownership,” she said. “It’s quickly grown into a vital resource in this community — and that’s because of the support of the council, the mayor, our city administration and definitely the hardworking staff in the housing department.
