Fort Wayne police were expecting tricks as well as treats for Halloween 1935.

Chief George Eisenhut ordered extra squats to report for duty on Oct. 31, 1935, to prevent property damage by those celebrating Halloween. The previous day, police had responded to 73 calls including false fire alarms, air being let out of tires, rocks being thrown at cars and other pranks, some of which caused damage and injury.

The police chief cautioned that anyone caught destroying property would be arrested and required to pay for the damage. But no worries to those celebrants just looking for some innocent fun – Eisenhut said harmless Halloween activities would not be stopped.
