INDIANA, USA — On Wednesday, the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) issued a warning to the public about a new texting scam going around.
The new text message scams "strongly mimic" the BMV's mobile website and improperly cites Indiana Code, according to a BMV news release.
The scam message says due to a "traffic violation," the recipient must issue a payment "immediately" through a website linked at the bottom of the text message. Although the website may appear to be a BMV website, officials point out that it doesn't end in ".gov" and is fake.
