First United Methodist Church in Corpus Christi is calling for the community to donate to families in financial hardship as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program is set to run out of money on Nov. 1.
The federal program, also known as food stamps, provides low-income families monthly benefits to afford healthy food. Without funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture amid the federal government shutdown, nearly 42 million Americans who rely on the program will go without benefits.
