A former Rite Aid in Mount Washington will reopen on Thursday morning as a standalone Giant Eagle pharmacy — with a former Rite Aid in Sewickley, set to open on Nov. 13, next on the list of conversions.
“We are thrilled to be opening this stand-alone Giant Eagle Pharmacy to meet the health, wellness and fresh foods needs of the Mt. Washington community,” said Bill Artman, Giant Eagle president and CEO, in a statement Wednesday.
Rite Aid filed for bankruptcy in May — its second Chapter 11 filing in two years. Hundreds of Rite Aid pharmacies closed in the following months.
In the Pittsburgh area, Giant Eagle moved in, buying shuttered Rite Aid locations and expanding its pharmacy footprint. The Cranberry-based grocer acquired six million new prescriptions from bankrupt Rite Aid.
