Mike Padgett Highway washout at the bridge that crosses Butler Creek is expected to limit northbound traffic to one lane for at least a week.

The Georgia Department of Transportation said Wednesday that a "washout has been discovered under the approach slab to the bridge" on Georgia Highway 56 and that the DOT would be closing both northbound lanes of the bridge. Southbound lanes will stay open.

The Butler Creek bridge is about a mile south of Interstate 520/Bobby Jones Expressway.

Authorities ask drivers to slow down with caution while traveling through the work area.
