MONROE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — An unloaded handgun was found at Monroe Middle School on Wednesday, school officials say.
During the day, school officials received a tip that an 8th-grade student possibly had a vape. When school staff located the student, they discovered he had an unloaded handgun.
School staff then notified the school's assigned School Resource Officer (SRO).
Officials say that no students or staff were threatened at any time, and there were no injuries during the incident.
The Monroe Police Department is working to learn how the firearm came into the student's possession. Due to the age of those involved and the ongoing investigation, no additional information is being released at this time.
