Generous donors helped a Sarnia school-supplies drive have a record-breaking year.

Office supply retailer, Staples, and Sarnia-area Kiwanis clubs have been raising money and providing local schools with supplies each fall for more than two decades.

This year, an annual Labour Day weekend barbecue by service club members outside the store, donations from five Kiwanis clubs in the area and donations by Staples customers raised more than $11,600 to buy supplies delivered to 14 local schools and BGC, a youth club.

Kiwanians gathered Wednesday at the Sarnia Staples for cake and a celebration.

It was the best year for donations since the drive began, said store manager Lynn Faubert.

“We’re pretty excited,” she said.
