Kat Abughazaleh, a progressive Democratic congressional candidate in Illinois, was recently indicted on federal charges related to protests outside of a Chicago ICE detention facility . Along with five other individuals, the 26-year-old, who is Palestinian American, was accused of blocking ICE vehicles from entering the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement center in the suburbs outside of the city, according to court documents . The filing, which is dated October 23, charges Abughazaleh with two counts: conspiracy to impede or injure an ICE officer, and assaulting or impeding an officer while engaged in official duties.
