ENDICOTT, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) - A local middle school hosted a shoe drive this past week, with the proceeds supporting the trip of a lifetime for veterans.
Jennie F Snapp Middle School students spent time with local veterans from Twin Tiers Honor Flight and raised money through a shoe drive to benefit the organization.
For every 25 pounds of shoes students brought in, $5 was raised towards the Honor Flight.
Veterans told stories to the kids, who also participated in activities that highlighted the importance of service and remembrance.
Veteran Burt Baldwin says this was his first time visiting a school and talking about his experience.
"I enjoy talking to the kids, they all have been respectful. I didn't know what to expect because I'm not around kids a lot," said Baldwin.
