LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — An Arkansas state senator is asking Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders to issue a disaster proclamation to help assist people impacted by the SNAP funding issues caused by the government shutdown.
Sen. Jamie Scott said that the government shutdown has the capacity to immediately disrupt thousands of Arkansas households who are already struggling to afford food, utilities, and housing.
In a public letter penned to the governor, Sen. Scott emphasized that Arkansans shouldn't go hungry, especially at the expense of a lingering partisan disagreement.
She called on the governor to issue a statewide disaster proclamation, which could be used to prepare for and mitigate potential losses in SNAP benefits.
