Fort Bend County Commissioners voted last week to hire an outside law firm to evaluate the authority of the county attorney.

The vote – which was first reported by the Fort Bend Star – was passed 3-2 along party lines, with Republicans voting in favor.

"We have a number of attorneys who disagree with the county attorney's determination of what all of her authority is, and all we're trying to do is look for clarification," Precinct 3 County Commissioner Andy Meyers, a Republican, said during commissioners court last week.

The vote came after months of clashing between Fort Bend County Judge KP George, a Republican, and County Attorney Bridgette Smith-Lawson, a Democrat, over the redistricting process .
