COLCHESTER, Conn. — A surprise ceremony at Bacon Academy in Colchester Wednesday morning celebrated the contributions of the man who leads the school’s Youth Manufacturing Pipeline Initiative.

David Mason thought he was attending a schoolwide assembly with Connecticut Commissioner of Education Charlene Russell-Tucker regarding college and career readiness.

He was shocked to learn he is a recipient of the Milken Educator Award, which recognizes outstanding educators throughout the United States. The school community reportedly responded with loud applause when Mason was awarded.
