JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (WSIL) -- Gov. Mike Kehoe announced measures to expedite food assistance for at-risk Missourians amid the ongoing federal government shutdown.
Gov. Kehoe highlighted the challenges faced by Missouri's most vulnerable residents due to the anticipated loss of November Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
"Democrats in Washington continue to hold the federal government hostage for political leverage, leaving Missouri's most vulnerable uncertain if they will have food on the table next month," Kehoe said.
The Missouri Department of Social Services is prepared to issue November SNAP benefits as soon as the federal government reopens. However, the state cannot directly replace federal SNAP funding.
To support seniors, Gov. Kehoe has authorized a $10.
