A man from Greater Manchester who travelled for a 'once in a lifetime trip' to Jamaica with his family has told of the moment a disastrous hurricane hit the Caribbean on Tuesday (October 28).

Johnny Gupta, from Prestwich , had flown from Manchester to Jamaica along with his wife, two children and son-in-law for the week-long break when Hurricane Melissa wreaked havoc on the island.

As many as 8,000 British citizens are currently in the country, with people ordered on Tuesday to stay inside to avoid the world’s strongest storm of the year so far, which left 'catastrophic winds' and 'flash flooding' in its wake.
