FAIRHAVEN, Mass. (WPRI) — A "stay put" order was briefly put in place at three Fairhaven schools as police chased down a fleeing suspect.
According to Chief Daniel Dorgan, Fairhaven police got a call around 2 p.m. Wednesday about a man with an outstanding warrant who was spotted at a car wash on Route 6.
The man was cleaning out a vehicle as officers approached, but he ran off in the direction of Hastings Middle School around the time of dismissal.
Police notified the school district, which put the "stay put" order in place at Hastings and two elementary schools out of an abundance of caution. The town's high school had already let out for the day.
