CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) - Through the doors of the Cape Girardeau Public Library walks a woman looking for her next best read.

“It makes you love and appreciate life so much more,” said Carol Reimann.

Books are Carol’s thing.

So much so, she spends a lot of her retired life after being a school teacher for 50 years, volunteering at the library, helping others get books in their hands.

But a story of her own mystery starts on a regular day with a friend back in 1991.

“A friend of mine called me and said, ‘I found a lump, let’s go have a mammogram,’ and I said, ‘Oh, I’ve had one, I don’t need one.’ She said, ‘No, you go with me and you have one and I’ll have one and then I won’t be so scared.’ I said, ‘Okay, that’s fine.’”
