OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Young military families are feeling the impacts of the persistent government shutdown. The increased need for help dried up the shelves of Offutt’s Food Pantry, but after a call to action earlier this month, neighbors stepped up to donate.
The government shutdown has tightened the wallets of service members nationwide for nearly a month now.
“You hear some got paid, some did not, some got deposits that had no funds attached,” said Vice President of the Offutt Advisory Council John Winkler. “So again, you are living paycheck to paycheck, young airmen with families and so they are struggling.”
Airman’s Attic , a thrift store and food pantry on site at Offutt Air Force Base typically serves about 600 eligible military families yearly.
